Mid-Week Walking - Leighton Moss
Thursday, 21 May 2026
A round from Leighton Moss RSPB reserve, via Silverdale,Yealand and the bird reserve.
Meet at 10.30 a.m. at the Leighton Moss Visitor Centre cafe, Myers Farm, Storrs Lane, Silverdale LA5 0SW Tel. 01524 701601 Grid ref. SD 478 751.
There is free parking opposite Leighton Moss for reserve users, but we will have to move the cars for the walk. There are several pull-in parking places on the right close to the start of the walk GR481755). The path takes us to Trowbarrow disused quarry, now a local nature reserve, before following the path out left onto Moss Lane, where we turn left, then right at the road for a short distance before turning right again at a public footpath, which takes us across the railway line and follows a circular path round Haweswater (same name, very different lake). We then cross fields and rough pasture through Yealand Hall Allotment, eventually emerging on the road near Yealand Storrs (GR9494780). We follow the road past Yealand Hall Farm, then take the second public footpath through Crinklebarrow Woods, emerging in fields near Leighton Hall, where we turn right onto a path which brings us to the public footpath through the RSPB reserve, then to the road near where we parked.
The walk is about 6 - 6.5 miles but can be shortened. At Yealand, before the path right into Crinklebarrow Wood there is another footpath through fields to Leighton Hall.
