Crag features
Above the bustling town of Settle is an area of unusual limestone out-croppings that are collectively known as the Attermire crags. The landscape is fairly stark but on a good day is a lovely place to climb and the crags are popular on long evenings in summer. The majority of the climbs on the main limestone edge at Attermire are quite short but pack in the moves. The rock and protection is generally very good on the pitches described here and the lines are strong.
Approach and Access
The central massif is best reached from a lay-by on the Settle to Malham road, at the junction with Stockdale Lane (Grid Ref: 836631). From the parking spot, head up Stockdale Lane for about 200 metres. When the road bends sharply right, cross the stile on your left and follow the footpath north. After a short rise, the massif comes into view ahead. Continue along the marked trail, bearing slightly right and downhill, to reach another stile in the drystone wall. From here, the various buttresses are easily accessible.
